The Győr EYOF set a good example

The organizers of the Győr event presented their summary of the European Youth Olympic Games at the General Meeting of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) held in Zagreb. The future organizers and candidate cities present at the event were also eager to learn about the experiences of the Győr organizers.

Last weekend the Győr delegation delivered in Zagreb their detailed account of the organization of the EYOF. In the so-called Final Report, the organizing committee gave a summary of the figures linked to the event and they also summed up the tournament. The three-hour event provided the organizers of upcoming European Youth Olympic Festivals with an opportunity to put questions to the Győr organizers regarding their experiences, and in this manner to gather information and learn about the challenges involved in a more interactive manner. In addition to the senior officers of the EOC, the Sports Minister of Azerbaijan representing Baku, the 2019 organizer, the representatives of Kosice, the 2021 organizer and even the organizers of the upcoming Sarajevo Winter EYOF were present at the event. Zsolt Borkai, the Mayor of Győr and the President of the Organizing Committee of the EYOF delivered his speech in English on the third day of the EOC General Meeting, which was followed by a short film produced by the Győr organizers and providing a brief summary of the tournament. Győr received a lot of praise for setting the bar high, as far as the quality of the organization and of the venues was concerned. Zsolt Borkai thanked the European Olympic Committees, the Hungarian Government, the Hungarian Olympic Committee and the Town Council of Győr for their support,  and the participating colleagues, the citizens of Győr and the volunteers for their hard work. He highlighted that the event received unanimous support in the host city. “The sports halls filled with spectators, the positive feedback received and the infrastructural developments that will continue to benefit the citizens of Győr confirmed that the organization of the EYOF was a good decision.”

Janez Kocijancic EOC President thanked Zsolt Borkai for the fact that the town of Győr organized an EYOF of such high quality, highlighting that the venue of the tournament is beautiful city with a strong economy, excellent conditions and committed organizers. He also noted that he hopes that the EOC will again have the chance to cooperate with the city of Győr in the future . The President also summed up the overall opinion of the fifty participating nations, according to which the Győr tournament was the best organized and most captivating Summer EYOF ever staged.

Joseph Cassar, President of the Coordination Commission of the 2017 Győr EYOF has been closely monitoring event organization activities for years, in the light of which he emphasized that working together with the organizing team was a great experience and that they set the bar high in all respects. He also presented the major figures of the 2017 European Youth Olympic Festival, highlighting the media attention, which also underlines the quality of the event. (A total of 226 media representatives registered for the tournament, 149 from Hungary and 77 from abroad, representing a total of 22 countries.) He also noted that the participants returned home in a positive mood and took with them positive experiences and that he was sure that many will come back to Győr in the future.

The event was also attended by Krisztián Kulcsár HOC President, who stressed that attending the evaluation session as a Hungarian was a great experience, since everyone at the General Meeting of the European Olympic Committees was discussing the high quality organization of the tournament and of the unforgettable experiences gained here in Győr, Hungary at the first Olympic event ever staged in the country.
