A bitter sweet farewell
"A week earlier we were much happier, because you all had just arrived and a wonderful tournament was about to begin. Today we are sad that the competitions are over and that we have to say farewell to each other. You are always welcome to return to Győr!" Zsolt Borkai, Mayor of Győr said in the name of the Organising Committee.
Aleksander Kozlovsky spoke on behalf of the European Olympic Committees and he kicked off by saying thank you for the excellent organisation. He said that we had spent seven magnificent days together, in the course of which a lot of friendships were forged. "Europe, Hungary and Győr can equally be proud of you," he told the athletes.
At the ceremony, Győr passed the torch and the flag on to the host city of the next festival, Baku. Chingiz Huseynzade, the Vice President of the Azeri Olympic Committee noted that Győr staged an excellent EYOF event, which Baku intends to match.
After the official conclusion of the EYOF a farewell party got underway at which the discs were spun by the Hungarian DJ Lotfi Begi. Therefore the European Youth Olympic Festival ended much the same manner as it begun: with a huge party! Thank you for being with us and we wish you many successes in you future sports career!
