Chefs de Mission Seminar for the European Youth Olympic Festival has started in Győr

Earlier all the fifty invited NOCs have confirmed their participation at the EYOF in July, in Győr. An important milestone of the preparation for the multi sport event is the so-called Chefs de Mission Seminar with the participation of the team leaders of the countries involved.

The event was preceded by the visit of the Coordination Commission, as on Monday and Tuesday the CoCom of the European Youth Olympic Festival and the Technical Delegates of the European Federations held meetings with the Organising Committee about current issues. For the Chefs the Mission, the official program started on Wednesday morning, where they listened to presentations about the most important issues of the various areas, including accreditation, transportation, health care services, safety measures, ceremonies, and volunteering.

During the venue tours, participants visited the various venues, sports facilities, sports tracks, as well as the Athletes' Village.
The representatives of the participating NOCs could receive a complex picture about sports issues and they have discussed a number of relevant questions, such as the finalization of flags of anthems to be used at the festival.
In his opening speech Joseph Cassar, chair of the Coordination Commission said:
"We are proud that we can work with an Organising Committee who do their best for the athletes, on the highest possible level. In Győr, a lot of energy was spent on building new facilities and to renovate old sports venues so that they can meet the highest standards. This is not only essential for the European Youth Olympic Festival, but it is also a legacy for the city, its residents, but mostly young people."

In the name of the Organising Committee, the Mayor of Győr, Zsolt Borkai, welcomed the representatives of the fifty countries. As he said, the organisers of EYOF have been working hard since 2011, when the city won the opportunity to organise the event, to provide an unforgettable Olympic experience for Europe. "In the next two days we would like to present our status in preparation, while representatives will have the opportunity to visit the venues and familiarize with the details of the organisation." Mr Borkai emphasized that a big advantage of the games is that the venues are close to each other, there are no big distances, so that a compact event can be organised with a real Olympic spirit. "Besides a high quality organisation regarding the sports events, we would also like to show our cultural values, the beauties of Hungary, Győr, and the whole region." Zsolt Borkai expressed his hope that the Chefs the Mission, besides participating at the meetings will also have the opportunity to get to know the city, which will welcome Europe in less than 100 days.

After the welcoming speeches the presentation of the various functional areas of the Organising Committee followed, and the participants visited the venues of the event in the afternoon.

The European Youth Olympic Festival will be organised in Győr between July 23-29, 2017, in ten sports, with the participation of almost 3000 young athletes (between 14-18 years of age) from fifty European countries.
