Chefs de Mission Seminar in Győr was a great success

EYOF in Győr is hallmarked by innovative, original ideas, and excellent facilities, participants of the Chefs the Mission said after their seminar ended on Thursday night.

After presentations on the various areas of the organisation and visits of the official venues, the Chefs de Mission praised developments in Győr, including the multifunctional hall Audi Arena, which is ready and which has hosted numerous international events so far and the Aqua Sports Centre equipped with 21st century technology. They also complimented on the facilities being built, including the Olympic Sports Park, which hosts an athletics centre, a tennis centre, a gymnastics hall, a fight sports hall and a multifunctional sports hall near the swimming pool, and the Athletes' villages. Participants could experience the proximity of the venues, which are within easy reach to each other, even on foot. This proximity can also contribute greatly to the community experience characterising the Olympic events.

During the two days of the Seminar, the Chefs de Mission made friends with Hugoo, the mascot of the event, took many photos, had the opportunity to familiarise with the beauties of Győr, and at the accompanying events they could see such peculiarities as the sand animation of artist Norbert Papp depicting the sports of EYOF and Győr in an unusual manner.

The Chefs de Mission had the opportunity to submit their questions continuously during the two days, which were answered by the organisers at the closing session. Joseph Cassar, head of the Coordination Commission thanked the members of the Organising Committee for their openness, cooperativeness, and efficiency, which has been the key to the good relations and smooth workflow. Talking to the Chefs de Mission he emphasized that this is a youth event with the participation of young athletes who are potential participants of future adult European and world championships and the Olympic Games, therefore Chefs de Mission have a great responsibility in making youths part of the Olympic family during the EYOF, thus providing them motivation for their future career.

At the closing meeting Cristoph Sieber, representative of the Austrian team emphasized that organisers brought in original and innovative elements, and made the past two days and the organisation of the summer European Youth Olympic Festival fascinating by introducing a new perspective, enhancing expectations. "If national teams are successful at EYOF, this will also be our success. We do our best to provide all the necessary conditions" dr. Zsigmond Nagy, international director of the Hungarian Olympic Committee said.

"I am really happy that in the past two days we could show our city, the venues, the status of the organisation, and maybe also the love and hospitality with which we are preparing to receive young talents from Europe" mayor of Győr Zsolt Borkai, chair of the Hungarian Olympic Committee added. As he said, the Chefs de Mission Seminar was a great opportunity to discuss the details and for national representatives to ask questions of concern. "On one hand, we were given a confirmation that we are on the right path in our organisation, on the other hand we received motivation for further work. There is less than ninety days left to the start of EYOF in Győr! We are in preparation, if possible, with even greater commitment than before."

At the first Olympic event in Hungary sports will include athletics, judo, canoe sprint, cycling, handball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, artistic gymnastics, and swimming. At the multisport event between July 23-29 the biggest EYOF team ever from Hungary with 152 young athletes will participate.
