The three-time Olympic champion Pieter van den Hoogenband will be the team leader of the delegation of the Netherlands at European Youth Olympic Festival in Gyor in July.
The former world record holder swimmer will soon come to Gyor for the team leaders’ meeting in April.
The so-called Chefs de Mission Seminar is an important stage of the preparation for European Youth Olympic Festival in July. Team leaders of the 50 participating countries will gather in Gyor between 25-28 April to check the venues, the Olympic village and finalise the hymns, the display of flags and talk through all major issues that may be relevant for their national teams.
There is a chance to meet with star sportsmen before the event in July. The Netherlands will be represented by a real legend and national hero, the three-time Olympic champion (2000, 2004) and world record holder swimmer, Pieter van den Hoogenband, who has already registered for the event. Many people just call him “The Flying Dutchman” in his country and in the world. The former swimmer is the seventh most successful sportsman on the all-time cumulative list of Dutch summer and winter sports and the former king of the 100m freestyle, who was invincible for many years in his main category.
His presence at the EYOF Gyor will probably not only be a motivation for Dutch athletes, but everyone, as he is one of the greatest sportsman of swimming.
