At the General Assembly of the organisation in Prague, the presentation of the EYOF GYŐR 2017 OC appealed to the representatives of the member states...
Mr. Zsolt Borkai, the mayor of the city of Győr, President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee emphasized that the OC received many positive feedback regarding the plans to organise the Olympic Games in 2024 in Budapest, and it was also good to hear that the member states of the European Olympic Committees are positively looking forward to the 2017 European Youth Olympic Festival in Győr. „We will do our best to live up to the confidence placed in us, therefore our goal is to organise a high-quality series of competition in a festival atmosphere."
At the General Assembly, Mr. Dávid Fekete, deputy mayor of the city of Győr presented the current state of the preparations. In his presentation, he introduced the already existing facilities and those ones that are going to be built soon. Besides this, he also talked about the other areas of the organisation. He told that the final decision about the Athletes' Village is expected in January, but one of the venues for the village is going to be the 200-apartement building-complex to be built at the place of the former oil factory. The presentation as well as the EYOF-film of Győr was a great success. At the gala dinner after the General Assembly, Mr. Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee and Mr. Patrick Hickey, president of the European Olympic Committees personally offered their felicitations to the delegation of Győr. The deputy mayor explained: „Joseph Cassar, the chairman of the EYOF Coordination Commission emphasized at the General Assembly that they had very positive impressions during their visit in Győr, first of all regarding the high standard of the competition venues. He also ensured the representatives of the member states that a very compact event is to be expected in Győr, as almost all venues are at walking distance from each other, strengthening the Olympic atmosphere."
„The chairman also drew our attention to the fact that the EYOF in Győr will be of great significance, because the IOC is going to decide about the host city of the 2024 Olympic Games in September 2017, after the EYOF in Győr." – added Mr. Péter Bolla, the mayor's commissioner. He also explained that the evaluation of the previous EYOF in Tbilisi, where both positive and negative aspects were mentioned, was very useful for Győr. „Folker Hellmund, the director of the EOC/EU office in Brussels offered his help to the successful submission of European applications, and on the closing day of our visit, we discussed the open questions and the tasks waiting for the organising committee with Katerina Nycova, EYOF coordinator." The coordinator is supposed to come next time in January to our city, where she will have negotiations about organisational issues with the heads of the different areas of the OC.
